East Coast Christian Women Conference

ECCWC'S HISTORY

In September 1988, God, by His Holy Spirit, impressed the vision of a group of women, Christian women, coming together to learn from one another. Although the concept itself was not new, we soon understood why it was necessary.

First there are many "unsung" heroines among, us who are excellent teachers and expounders of the Word of God and we needed to somehow "tap" that much overlooked resource within the body of Christ Second, women (whether by nature, instinct or Satanic influence) are prone to think they cannot get along with other women- yes even among the saved. We through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God are making many strides to bring women together in harmony. Third, many women need a forum to express their concerns and gather solid, scriptural information about issues of today, how they are affecting them, what God has to say about them and how to handle them.

With these three primary concerns being taken into consideration and prayer, the women of Reconciliation Community Church developed what we think will become one of the best Women's Conferences on the East Coast. Thus, the founding principles of ECCWC were established. The focus and guidelines for ECCWC are as follows:

  1. To bring women, Christian and non-Christian, from all races and denominations together for fellowship, edification, support and instruction in the things of God that pertain primarily to women and wholesome Christian living.
  2. To look within our local assemblies and bring forth those women with gifts of teaching, other special talents, practical knowledge in areas that would benefit women (from a biblical perspective), and calling upon their lives.
These are the "unsung'' heroes, the backbone (so-to-speak), of the local assembly. However, when we think of a Conference, or convention with far-reaching possibilities, too often these women are overlooked.

The first conference was held at Reconciliation Community Church, Woodbridge. Virginia in May 1989. Representatives from 7 states participated in this first effort. The second conference was held in Quantico, Virginia and was represented by 9 states. The 1991 conference was held at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland and was attended by representatives from 9 states. The fourth and fifth conferences were held at Christ Chapel Church in Woodbridge, Virginia. Up until the construction of our new facility, ECCWC was held at our "home away from home," Grace Baptist Church, of Woodbridge, VA. In August of 2002, we held our 13th annual East Coast Christian Women's Conference in our debt-free, 52,000 square house that the Lord built (Psalm 127:1).

ECCWC has a conservative operating budget, however, when excess funds are available, these proceeds go to assist the homeless, pregnant teens in crisis situations, battered spouses, children, and those who need food and the elderly. In other words, ECCWC's planning committee is dedicated to not just giving lip service but being example to other Christian organizations. It is our prayer that each woman who participates in the ECCWC will never leave the same way she came, but will be blessed beyond measure and will extend herself to bless others.
